20 March 2021, Apia Samoa. Samoa can expect the arrival of 79,000 Covid-19 vaccines in the next 10 days.
Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi confirmed during his weekly programme with Radio 2AP that 79,000 Covid-19 vaccines will arrive before the end of March 2021.
“It has been confirmed that the vaccines will arrive any day now and before the end of March, so we can soon expect the vaccination for covid to start,” Tuilaepa said.
“Ua toe lava o nai aso, ona alu loa lea o tuiga.”
Tuilaepa says the easily manageable population of Samoa is a major advantage.
“We don’t have a large population which means the whole country can be vaccinated within a week,” he said.
“O le tatou atunuu e le o se atunuu toatele o lona uiga e tasi lava le vaiaso e faagasolo ai tuiga ae faasopolia Samoa atoa.”
The caretaker Prime Minister is asking for support from Village Councils across Samoa and says the vaccination process could possibly be taken out to different villages through Alii ma Faipule.
He confirms again that priority would be given to Samoa’s frontliners, people in quarantine and the elderly.
