Fasitoo-Uta Car Crash Claims Two Lives

A car accident along the Fasitoo-uta access road on Tuesday  evening claimed two lives.

Police spokesperson Auapaau Logoitino said the fatal incident involved a blue SUV type vehicle and a white truck.

He said the driver of the blue SUV driven by an elderly man in his 60s and a young man in the front passenger’s seat, both died at the scene.

The blue vehicle was heading towards Aleisa from Fasitoo-uta when it collided head-on with a truck coming downhill in the opposite direction.

Auapaau said the driver of the truck was uninjured.

The driver of the blue vehicle is confirmed to have been under the influence of alcohol, and has been identified as Mr. Peni Hala. The young man who died is a member of his family.

Police continue their investigations, however, urge the public to be more vigilant at this busy time of the year and warn the public to please refrain from driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Another incident at Tuanaimato on Wednesday afternoon left six people seriously injured. A man and a woman in a blue sedan traveling from Siusega were hit at the intersection by Farmer Joe’s Supermarket, by a speeding Frankie Wholesale delivery truck coming down the hill from Aleisa.

Police Commissioner Su’a Fuiavailiili Egon Keil has already warned that road blocks and traffic enforcement will be increased during the Christmas and New Year period to ensure the safety of the public.

“The public should be informed of the dangers of heavy drinking especially during this time of the year..

“We should all be mindful and watchful of each others welfare and safety,” said Commissioner Keil.
