22 February 2022 Apia Samoa. A possible Cabinet reshuffle is expected at a swearing-in ceremony called for 10am this morning in Cabinet Chambers.
The ruling Faatuatua i Le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party gained five new members following the November by-elections and it is expected the new appointments would include them.
FAST Chairman and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Laauliolemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt has not let anything out of the bag this time, stating that the selection of Cabinet Ministers and Associate Ministers, is the sole prerogative of the Prime Minister.Â
“Any reshuffling of Cabinet and Associate Ministers, or decisions on the appointment of new Associate Ministers is the sole discretion of Prime Minister Hon Fiame Naomi Mata’afa,” stated the founder of the FAST party.
When Cabinet was first named, the Minister of Women Community and Social Development (MWCSD) Hon Leota Laki Lamositele Sio was also named as Associate Minister of Finance. Leota has been on medical leave for the past few months seeking treatment in New Zealand.
Media have been invited to cover the event in Cabinet Chambers on the 5th floor of the Government building at 10am.Â
