
22/02/2022 Apia Samoa. Samoa’s Director General of Health and Ministry Chief Executive Officer Leausa Toleafoa Dr Take Naseri is in New Zealand for medical treatment.
This was confirmed by Minister of Health, Valasi Togamaga Tafito Selesele who says the Health Director has been granted three weeks of approved medical leave.
“Leausa apllied for leave last year and has since been looking for a suitable time for his medical check-up”.
Leausa left last Saturday for Auckland under the Government funded medical scheme, the Minister confirms.
Last Friday Leausa was present at a National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) press conference with the media to release updates of Samoa’s covid cases in isolation and repatriated passengers in quarantine.
In response to rumours that Dr Naseri had either resigned or had his contract terminated, the Health Minister warned the public against passing on misinformation.
Dr. Naseri has served in the Medical Profession for over 20 years in Samoa, American Samoa as well as New Zealand in the areas of Anaesthesia & ICU, Internal Medicine & Infectious Diseases and Population health.
In 2010 he was appointed to the Ministry of Health as the Consultant Specialist Physician Public Health and as ACEO until his elevation to the DG/CEO in February of 2014. Dr. Take Naseri, was re-appointed as an Associate Professor of epidemiology at Brown University’s School of Public Health in June 2021.
