A carpenter who was part of a team of builders renovating a family home in the Apia area has been sentenced to five months imprisonment for kissing an 11 year old girl on the cheek and touching her private parts from outside her shorts.
Daniel Kereti Temese, 26, entered an early guilty plea to one count of indecent act, admitting the incident that occurred at the victim’s home.
According to the police summary of facts, Temese said he committed the offending “because he couldn’t stand the way the victim dressed”.
This behaviour of displacing responsibility is common amongst perpetrators of domestic and sexual violence and Justice Tologata Tafaoimalo told the defendant it was “unacceptable what you did to this young girl and especially you did in her own home”.
The Court deducted 4 months for Temese’s early guilty plea and the formal apology that was accepted by the victim’s family.
He will spend five months at Tanumalala Prison for his offending on the young girl.
