NO ROOM FOR DECEPTION

Ephesians 5:5–6 “For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.”

Paul speaks with clarity and pastoral seriousness. These verses aren’t meant to frighten sincere believers, but to WARN AGAINST SELF-DECEPTION. Scripture refuses to blur the line between light and darkness, truth and compromise. WHAT WE LIVE FOR REVEALS WHAT WE WORSHIP.

Greed, impurity, and immorality are described here as forms of idolatry because they place something else at the centre of the heart where God alone belongs. Left unchecked, they reshape what we love, adjust our lives, and slowly dull our sensitivity to truth.

Paul also cautions us against “empty words.” Not every comforting voice speaks faithfully. Some messages soften sin, excuse compromise, or redefine holiness to suit the culture. However, God’s Word remains steadfast and sure. Love never removes truth—it speaks it clearly.

This passage calls us back to sincerity—walking honestly before God, resisting deception, and choosing obedience rooted in reverence. A life aligned with Christ isn’t marked by perfection, but by repentance, humility, and a growing love for what pleases Him.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the truth of Your Word that guards my heart. Keep me from deception and from excusing what You call sin. Help me to live with integrity, reverence, and a heart fully devoted to You. May my life reflect the kingdom I belong to, through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
