Vodafone Renews Sponsorship with Lakapi Samoa


28 June 2024 Apia Samoa. Vodafone Samoa has today announced the renewal of its sponsorship with Lakapi Samoa.

The company had recently announced the discontinuation of its support to rugby, but say in a press release that they have had a change of heart after consulting with stakeholders.

“After careful consideration and constructive discussions with stakeholders, we are confident in our decision to continue supporting the growth and development of the Rugby in Samoa,” said Rana Bose, CEO of Vodafone Samoa.

The value of sponsorship in cash or in kind  was not disclosed in the press release, however, Vodafone Samoa states it remains steadfast in fostering a thriving rugby in difficult times for Rugby in Samoa.

Bose says their decision to continue support to Lakapi Samoa promotes sportsmanship, and nurtures talent at the grassroots level.

“We look forward to collaborating closely with Lakapi Samoa to achieve shared goals and create memorable results in the long term.”

Bose says Vodafone’s recent decision and announcement to temporarily withdraw from sponsoring rugby was not taken lightly but was rooted in a comprehensive review of its sponsorship portfolio and market dynamics at the time.

“However, we engaged in constructive dialogue with stakeholders, including the rugby community, fans, and internal teams..”

“This period allowed us to reassess
our priorities, evaluate feedback, and understand the broader impact of our sponsorship on the development of Rugby and its participants at a challenging time for the sport,” said the CEO of Vodafone Samoa.

“What emerged from these discussions was a reaffirmation of our commitment to rugby and its values. Rugby, with its rich heritage of camaraderie, resilience, and inclusivity, aligns closely with our own corporate ethos..”

“We recognize its power to unite communities, inspire the nation, and promote talents,” added the CEO.

Faleomavaega Vincent Fepuleai, CEO of Lakapi Samoa says he looks forward to deepening  partnerships, and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
