7am Monday 14 December 2020. The Samoa Meteorological Services confirms TD03 is 364 km South-Southwest of Falease’ela at 2:00 am this morning.
The system is expected to continue moving South closing in over the Tongan islands. However; an active convergence zone which links to the system lingers over the country bringing heavy rainfall with strong and gusty winds, high combined waves and swells and flooding to all major rivers and vulnerable locations. As for now all warnings and advisories remain mandatory to reflect the current situation.
Potential Impacts:
Heavy downpours with poor visibility, gusty winds, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides and waterways and possible flooding. Very rough seas and high surf and possible coastal flooding to exposed locations.

The Fiji Met Office predicts TD03 will form into a Cyclone by tonight.
“A tropical low north of Tonga’s Vava’u islands is forecast to intensify and turn into a cyclone by tonight. The system is then forecast to move in a south-easterly direction and be well clear of Tonga by Wednesday”.
Meantime the Fiji Meteorological Sevices declared TD02 as Tropical Cyclone Yasa which has formed between Fiji and Vanuatu.

Tropical Cyclone Yasa is a Category 1 storm, expected to strengthen to a Category 3 within the next two days.
The system is moving in a south-westerly direction before it is expected to turn towards the northwest and by Thursday to be back to today’s position.
The Fiji Met Office says there is no forecast of where the system might be making a landfall.
