Proverbs 13:3 “Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.”
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to speak without thinking. Social media, hurried conversations, and spontaneous reactions often cause us to say things we later regret. Proverbs 13:3 reminds us of the importance of guarding our speech. When we speak rashly or without care, we risk damaging relationships, creating misunderstandings, and even harming ourselves.
James 1:19 also says to “be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” Taking a moment to pause before responding allows us to consider the impact of our words. It’s not just about avoiding trouble; it’s about reflecting Christ in our communication. Wise words can bring healing and peace, but foolish words can bring destruction.
Let’s commit to practising restraint. Before we speak, let’s ask ourselves: Is what I’m about to say helpful? Is it kind? Will it bring life or cause harm? When we choose our words carefully, we honour God and protect our lives from unnecessary ruin.
Prayer:
Lord, You know my tendency to speak hastily. Help me to be slow to speak and quick to listen. Teach me to guard my words so that they may bring life and encouragement instead of harm. Fill me with Your Spirit’s wisdom and self-control, that I may honour You in every conversation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Have a fabulous week. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
