The next repatriation flight previously announced from Los Angeles has been postponed indefinitely due to the elevated situation in Fiji where a coronavirus community case has been confirmed.
Head of Samoa’s National Emergency Operations CentreĀ Agafili Tomaimano Shem Leo confirmed this during their regular press update held Saturday 24 April 2021.
According to Agafili the proposed chartered Fiji Airways flight was to bring home many citizens living across the USA. He said the setback was sad for Fiji and urged citizens to not cancel their bookings with Fiji Airways as it would be just a matter of rescheduling once Fiji borders open up again.
“Fiji Airways contacted us yesterday to convey the situation concerning the Los Angeles flight due to the elevated situation in Fiji,” said Agafili.
Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services confirms, Fiji has 6 recently discovered community cases; the country’s first cases of local transmission in over a year.
Fiji has had 87 cases in total, with 65 recoveries and 2 deaths, since our first case was reported on March 19th, 2020. 63 of these cases have been international travel-associated cases detected in border quarantine. There are currently 20 active cases in isolation in Fiji.
