Heavy Rain and Flood Warning for Samoa: 5am Fri 24 Feb Update

ISSUED BY THE SAMOA METEOROLOGY DIVISION AT 5:00 AM FRIDAY 24th FEBRUARY 2023.

Wet and unsettling weather conditions continue to persist as the convergence zone remains within the vicinity of Samoa.
The system maintains gloomy conditions and occasional heavy falls across the islands throughout the night with strong gusty winds at times.

Continuous rainfall in the past few days saturate the ground thus subjecting the risk of flooding and landslides in prone areas.
In addition, the northerly winds of 35-45 km/h remain persistent across the islands and is also responsible for increasing waves and rough seas as observed over the marine waters.
These severe weather states are slowly progressing westward and may lead to easing conditions by tomorrow.
Potential Impacts:
Heavy downpours with poor visibility, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides and waterways. Flooding and landslides are possible. Expect gusty winds at times and rough seas.
