Apia, Samoa – Thursday 29 February 2024 Digicel Samoa today launched a new cell tower at Lotofaga village in Upolu, providing a significant boost in connectivity for local residents and businesses through increased mobile coverage and data speeds.

Samoa Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mataafa, officially launched the tower with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“I congratulate Digicel Samoa for remembering the communities on this side of the island and bridging the digital gap that exists in our country,” said the Prime Minister.

“I can foresee the many benefits and positive impacts this will have on the schools, businesses and subsistence growth for farmers and fishermen, but also for families to stay connected to loved ones all over the world.”

The Lotofaga site will provide coverage to over 1,000 residents, offering crucial connectivity and LTE coverage [mobile voice and data] for local and international communication.

PM Fiame congratulated Digicel Samoa for remembering rural communities and bridging the digital gap.

Lotofaga, Saletoga and Matatufu on the south side of Upolu are renowned for their stunning scenery, pristine beaches and lively communities, making them top destinations for tourists and travellers.

Digicel Samoa CEO, Anthony Seuseu, said the new cell tower would deliver fast and reliable connectivity to communities, similar to that found in the bustling heart of Apia’s CBD.

“Now that our cell tower is live, it stands as a vital lifeline for our community, empowering people to effortlessly reach out to loved ones abroad, supporting local tourism, and super-charging businesses through seamless digital transactions.”

Digicel Samoa remains committed to bridging the digital divide through its plans to further extend coverage and connectivity across the country, aligning with its mission to connect the unconnected.
