Covid Update: Samoa Records 701 New Cases and One Death in Past 48 Hours

3pm Thursday 14 April 2022, Apia Samoa. In its latest update the Samoa Ministry of Health has confirmed 701 new community cases, of which 17 are in managed isolation and 2 are considered critical cases in ICU at the Moto’otua Hospital.

This figure is the number of new cases over a 48 hour period, from 2:00pm Sunday 10th April to 2pm Tuesday 12th April, 2022.  This is the second covid-update that covers a two-day period, reporting as at Tuesday 2pm, or two days ago.

In the same period, one new covid-related death has been confirmed as a 70 year old male, taking the total number of COVID-19 related of Samoa deaths to ten. “Out of respect for the families antd relatives, we will not be making any further comments,” states the MOH report.

The report no longer gives demographic data on the ages of positive cases, which had been included as a bar graph in the past. There is now also no update on numbers between Savaii and Upolu.

The Ministry statement ends with a public reminder: “The public is hereby advised to please remain vigilant and take heed of health precautions and restrictions to stay home and isolate if you are feeling unwell, mask up and ensure good personal hygiene. A kind reminder, please get vaccinated as vaccination remains the best defense against COVID-19 pandemic.
