Secured in God’s Unchanging Promise

THE PROMISE CAME FIRST

Galatians 3:17 “What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise.”

Paul now strengthens our confidence in the gospel. God made a promise to Abraham, a covenant rooted in grace. And Paul makes it clear: the law, which came later, didn’t cancel or replace that promise.

The timeline matters—THE PROMISE CAME FIRST. The law came later.

This means the foundation of our relationship with God has always been grace, not law. THE LAW WAS NEVER GIVEN TO REPLACE THE PROMISE, BUT TO REVEAL OUR NEED FOR IT.

And most importantly, God’s promise stands. It isn’t fragile. It isn’t temporary. It isn’t dependent on human performance. What God establishes, He doesn’t overturn.

This is where our assurance rests. If salvation depended on our ability to keep the law, it would always be uncertain. But because it rests on God’s promise—fulfilled in Christ—IT IS SECURE. The gospel isn’t built on shifting ground. It is anchored in the unchanging faithfulness of God.

Praise the Lord—our salvation rests on God’s promise, not our performance—and His promise doesn’t fail. We don’t move from promise to law. We stand in what God has already established.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that Your promise is sure and unchanging. Help us to rest in the grace You have given and not in our own efforts. Strengthen our confidence in what You have established through Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
