Poutasi Takes the Cup for 3rd Leg of Uso Satalo Rugby 7s

26 Sept 2020. Poutasi are the winners of the third leg of the Satalo Rugby Sevens in the Falealili district.

Captain Murphy Paulo scored the winning try in a close match against Salani.

The match remained tryless at halftime with both teams defending well, not letting the other through tight barracks of defense.

Salani scored early in the second half and the score remained 5-0 with Poutasi trailing for most of the second half.

At full time and with one last play, former Samoa Sevens player Murphy Paulo stepped, pulled a dummy and went over under the post to put his side ahead, winning 7-5.

Head Coach of the Manu Samoa Muliagatele Brian Lima was present with Assistant Coach Tausa Faamaoni Lalomilo.

The Satalo Sevens tournament features 12 teams from 7 villages in Falealili, and this week was its third leg.

The Daniel Masivao captained Vaovai Rugby Club took the first leg of the tournament edging out Satalo in a close final.

Last week for the second leg, Sapunaoa Rugby Club took the Cup, beating Poutasi in the finals. This week was Poutasi’s turn to lift the trophy.

The tournament is an opportunity for the villages of  Falealili District to compete in a 6-week Sevens tournament that aims to develop grassroots rugby and provide a platform for village youth to gain experience and build up skills in a game they all love to play.
