Police Inspector Nanai Vani Vai, has been suspended from the Samoa Police force pending an investigation into leaked information during police drug raid operations. This week, the Prime Minister said two Officers were being investigated after it was discovered that a mobile phone belonging to a suspect, contained classified police information.
This afternoon, Radio Samoa Reporter Lilomaiava Maina Vai posted on her social media that her husband and long serving police officer, Nanai Vani Vai, has been suspended pending an investigation by the Ministry of Police Professional Standards Unit (PSU).
“Im picking up my husband….today he is suspended from the Ministry of Police due to allegations of leaking a search warrant to the drug dealers,” posts Lilomaiava.
During his press conference on Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Hon Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt said Samoa Police were investigating two officers after a drug related suspect was found to have had a copy of his arrest warrant on his mobile phone.
“When Police went to arrest one of the main distributors of drugs,” said Laaulialemalietoa, “a copy of the warrant that I had signed for his arrest; was on his mobile phone!”
“What does that mean?” the Prime Minister asked rhetorically. “It means the corruption is internal. It means this is internal issue, from inside the [Samoa] Police force..”

The Prime Minister told local media that the mobile phone that had sent the information to the suspected drug dealier’s phone, has been identified, and the culprits would soon be exposed.
The Government is not taking these leaks lightly, said the Prime Minister. He warned that investigations are now underway and all government staff who are leaking information and endangering the lives of others, will be dealt with to the full extent of the Law.
“We have the telephone number of that person and we will be making it public.. his name will soon be out.”
“We canʻt say more but we are alright and we are doing everything with a good heart.”
“Nanai misses his staff members and work colleagues who work with him throughout these 32 years serving Samoa,” adds Lilomaiava.
Nanai headed former Prime Minister, Hon Fiame Naomi Mata’afa’s security detail. He is denying the allegations against him, claiming a conspiracy theory against him.
