02 February 2019, Atua i Saute. PR. The opening match for the third week of the Atua i Saute Competition saw Falevao U20 regrouping after the loss of the Cup last week, with a 13 – 5 win over Saleapaga.
Both teams scored one try each through Tauese Lolofie of Saleapaga and Farane Ah Sam of Falevao, but the boot of Falevao’s Wayne Tiuga with a conversion and two penalties proved to be the winning difference .
The second game between Saleapaga Senior A and Lepa was closely fought with the lead changing several times before both teams levelled at 18-18 at the 75th minute. An unforced error by Saleapaga gave William Lifaloa of Saleapaga the penalty kick which took his side to a 21-18 win over Lepa. Samoa A and Atua Legends player Setu Sikoti and John Asafo of Lepa put on strong performances.
In the Under 20’s cup match between Lepa and Aufaga, the blistering heat and burning sun tested the physical stamina of both teams, who were evenly matched. Cup holders Lepa withstood a strong challenge from Aufaga and the scoreless match of nil all at the final whistle meant Lepa retains the cup. Kolisi Laumua of Lepa received the Best Player Award sponsored by Stuis Bar.
In the main game of the day, Falevao Senior A took on the 2018 champions Aufaga in an exciting match that saw both sides combine foraging forward plays with solid backline moves. At the end of the match, marred by a number of foul plays, the shield was handed over to Falevao.
Supporters from all villages witnessed the games and enjoyed a day at the rugby.
Saleapaga will challenge for both the Under 20 Cup and the Senior A Shield next weekend.
