Translated from the files of FaaSamoa. A Special Events Committee tasked with coordinating activities in the lead-up to Chrstmas and New Year have announced the proposed programme to include a parade, performances and fireworks.

The announcement was made by the joint  team of Samoa’s Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner, Tanuvasa Petone Mauga, Deputy Police Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti and Samoa Tourism Authority representative, Faamatuainu Fanaea Taulealo.

Faamatuainu said there is a parade planned for Wednesday 21st December 2022, to start at 5pm from Vaisigano Bridge to the Government building.

“On the 22nd and 23rd there will be performances and actives at Friendship Park in Matagialalua,” said Faamatuainu, “with more performances on the 31st while we await the New Year when there will be fireworks..”

Fire Commissioner Tanuvasa Petone Mauga said the fireworks display this year will be launched from a barge on the Apia Harbour, and not from Mt Vaea as was the case in the past.

Tanuvasa also added Savaii will also have its own fireworks display, to be launched off the  getty of Amoa Resort.

For Deputy Police Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti, maintaining public safety and ensuring a peaceful holiday season was her key message at the announcement on Thursday morning.

“There will be a lot of families, and parents wanting to bring their children in to see the events and witness the activities,” said Papalii.

“So we call on the public to please stay safe and ensure children are well supervised at all times.”

Papalii also stressed that drinking alcohol in public places is prohibited by Law.

“Police will be raising the bar to enforce the Law during this busy time,” added Papalii.

“However the safety of all our people is paramount for the Ministry at this time.”
