Samoa’s Electoral Commissioner, afioga Tuiafelolo Toleafoa John Stanley, has issued a formal declaration to announce Samoa’s first elected candidate of the 2025 General Elections.
Hon Leatinuu Wayne Sooialo has been formally declared and taken to be elected to represent the Electoral Constituency of Faleata 2.
“Pursuant to Section 59(1) of the Electoral Act 2019, and in accordance to the decision of the Supreme Court of Samoa on the outcome of the nomination challenges, I hereby give public notice declaring the Electoral Constituency of Faleata 2 to be uncontested at the General Election 2025,” writes the Electoral Commissioner.
The announcement follows Supreme Court decisions that disqualified two nominated candidates for not having satisfied the monotaga requirement under the Electoral Act.
Samoa’s Electoral Act requires candidates to serve a minimum of 3 years of service to the district through the village council and/or church.
Hon Leatinuu says he and his family will tapuai prayerfully in the coming days for a peaceful election period over Samoa.

“We pray for a smooth and peaceful election process and pray that there be no conflicts or incidents…
“Whichever government should be elected, we return all the glory to God, the choosing of our leaders is His.”
“O loo matou nofo tatalo ma tapuaia le faiga filifiliga a le tatou atunuu..
“Ia filemu ma faataunuuina i le manuia mea uma, ma ia aua nei iai se vevesi e tulai mai..
“O le faigamalo lava o le a filifilia, tatou faafoi le viiga i Le Atua o ia e ona le tofiga ma le filifiliga..
“Tatalo foi mo si matou vaega faaupufai o le SUP ia a’e ma le manuia lo matou faamoemoe.”

Hon Leatinuu Wayne Sooialo was first elected into Parliament in 2016. He has served as Minister of Commerce Industry and Labour and then Minister of Public Enterprises since 2021.
This will be Leatinuu’s third term as a Member of Parliament for his Constituency.

Leatinuu’s election means the Samoa Uniting Party (Samoa Ua Potopoto) enters the race with one seat already secured in Parliament.
Samoa goes to the polls this Friday 29 August, with pre-polling of 5,053 registered voters happening today – less those who registered for Faleata 2.

Voting booths will be open from 9am to 4pm for those who applied for pre-polling to cast their votes at specific polling booths across the country and nearest them.
The Electoral Commissioner had announced there will be one polling location in each electoral constituency – so a total of 50 options available for pre-poll voters.
