Galatians 4:6 “BECAUSE YOU ARE HIS SONS, GOD SENT THE SPIRIT OF HIS SON INTO OUR HEARTS, THE SPIRIT WHO CALLS OUT, ‘ABBA FATHER.'”
As we saw last week, if you believe in JESUS, you are a child of God. And as a child of God, you now have the Holy Spirit inside your heart. Not your head but your heart – the core or centre of your being.
As a child of God, the Holy Spirit inspires your heart to call out, “ABBA FATHER,” revealing the intimate relationship that you now have with God.
In the Old Testament, the Jews never addressed God as “ABBA.” But Jesus was the mediator of a better covenant established on better promises.
Because of all that Jesus achieved through His life, death, burial, and resurrection, God the Father can legally adopt all who believe that Jesus is Lord.
As God’s child, you’ve entered an intimate relationship with your ABBA FATHER.
In Aramaic, ‘ABBA’ conveys the warm and intimate relationship that every believer can have with God. It’s a FAMILY word that reveals the type of personal relationship that one can share with Him.
We are no longer enslaved people who are bound by the law, but free sons and daughters whose relationship with God can empower us and inspire us to live a life of love. We are children who are dependent upon our ABBA, and we trust Him for everything we need to make the most of the new life we’ve been given in Christ.
