The Samoa Police Service have confirmed that a 14 year old boy from the village of Patamea drowned at the Maliolio River on Monday.

According to a Police repors, the young boy was swimming with his brother at the river when the incident occurred yesterday afternoon.

The Samoa Police reminded the public that the Meteorology Serice has been issuing flood warnings since last week and the Police further warned the public, especially residents living in coastal and and low-lying areas and also rivers, to be vigilant.

“As per Meteorology Office’s update, we are expecting heavy rainfall, high combined waves, and swells, flooding to major rivers and venerable locations throughout the week”.

“Due to these severe weather conditions, the Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services urge families living around the coast and low-lying areas and near rivers to be vigilant and take extra caution”.

“We remind parents and guardians to please keep a close eye on our young children and youth”.

“This tragedy could have been avoided and our condolences to the grieving family”.
