Motuopua’a Henny Papalii took his oath as the MP for his constituency for the second time after resigning as an independent to join the Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) Party.
His swearing-in marks his official return to Parliament following the required constitutional process. He was also sworn in and appointed Associate Minister of Health.
Tunumafono Clare Tai Tin, who recently won the by-election for the Safata 1 constituency has been appointed Associate Minister of Revenue.
Both MPs took their oaths before the Speaker and fellow Parliament members as well as friends, families and supporter who joined in the celebrations.
The ruling FAST party now has 32 seats in Parliament out of 51. There is a possibility that the 18th Parliament of Samoa will become a 52 seat Parliament, if a 6th woman does not win any of the upcoming by-elections.
The opposition HRPP had 14 seats but are now down to 13 following the resignation of Vaimauga 3 MP, Taioaliiseu Saunia Fiti Aimaasu, who has made known his intention to join the ruling Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party.
The Samoa Uniting Party has 3 seats and there are two Independent MPs, with Vaimauga 3 going to by-elections for the vacant seat.
