Three Employees of the Ministry of Police Test Positive for Drugs

Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga confirmed to Samoa Global News that three employees were  suspended two weeks ago.

A police investigation has been launched into the positive tests.

“E sao e iai i latou e toatolu lea ua suspend ona o drug test,” he responded.

“All employees o le ofisa o leoleo.”

The Acting Police Commissioner did not elaborate or provide any more information about the positive tests.

He refused to clarify whether the 3 workers are all civilian workers or whether any are sworn-in police officers.

A source told Samoa Global News that at least one of the suspended employees had been working in the Corporate Services division of the Ministry of Police, as a cleaner.

According to sources, one of the suspended employees had been tested twice for drugs namely methamphetamine.

“And both tests were positive..”

Questions were sent to the Acting Police Commissionern whether any police officers were involved.

Questions are raised as to whether police investigations would lead to a supplier, and where the drugs were purchased from?

Leaiataua in his response said,  “investigations are continuing and an update will be provided next week.”

The Ministry of Police have been posting mug shots of members of the public for possession of drugs, however, the Acting Police Commissioner has withdrawn from answering any questions.
