The biggest national inter-schools athletics is back and once again, made possible through the ongoing support of SSAB.
Covid-19 prevented the interschool athletics Champ of Champs last year however it will take place again this year with the support of Samoa Stationery and Books.
The President of the Samoa Secondary School Principal’s Association, Sale Faletolu was elated that the Champ of Champs athletics is back.
“Finally! It’s happening. The athletics are usually held around July every year and although we’re at the end of August going towards September we still have to do it because we want to provide a platform for the talents of all our students plus we didn’t have one last year”.
September 15th is the date for the much anticipated event that sees the best of Samoa’s youth battling out top places for their schools.
President Faletolu extended the appreciation of MESC Chief Executive Officer, Afioga Aeau Chris Hazelman for the return of the SSAB Champ of Champs.



“We are all looking forward to providing the support that is needed by the SSSPA Executive, officials and especially the students who will be competing at the SSAB Champ of Champs 2023.
While SSAB is the major sponsor for all the four interschool athletics zones taking place this week, the Chief Executive Officer of SSAB, Afioga Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai has also accepted the request from the Secondary Schools Principal’s Association for SSAB to be the Naming Rights Sponsor of the Interschools Athletics Champ of Champs 2023.
SSAB ACEO Sales and Marketing, Asomua Asia Stanley announced the company’s sponsorship of 20,000 tala on behalf of SSAB’s CEO, Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai at their meeting with the President of the Secondary Schools Principal’s Association, Sale Faletolu and Secretary Sa’u Talagafa Itumua this week.
President Sale (Allie Faletolu) expressed the committee’s sincere appreciation for SSAB’s continuous support over the years.
“We are always grateful to SSAB for their endless support especially for the schools and educational activities not only in Upolu but also in Savai’i. I extend my gratitude to CEO Tofilau and SSAB for alleviating the process for us. We didn’t have to do the run-around,” said Sale Faletolu.
CEO Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai reiterated on SSAB’s continuous support for school and educational activities.
“It is SSAB’s heart to support the activities that will benefit the children of Samoa on the national level. We not only support national literacy campaigns but also sports because it’s a vital facet of education.
I also take this time to applaud the President of SSSPA, Sale Faletolu and their Executive for all their efforts and hard work in coordinating the SSAB Interschools Athletics Champ of Champs for all the colleges of Samoa,” said CEO Tofilau.



This is the 9th year that SSAB has been the Naming Rights Sponsor of the SSAB Interscool athletics Champ of Champs showcasing the best athletes across schools in Samoa.
President Sale and the Executive of the SSSPA urge the public, parents and supporters to come and support all the schools competing at the SSAB Interschool Athletics Champ of Champs.
The SSAB Champ of Champs will take place on Friday 15th September 2023.
