Apia, Samoa – 26 August 2025 – In just three years, Samoa Airways has staged one of the most dramatic financial turnarounds in its history, declaring a provisional profit after tax of $11 million for the year.

This week the state-owned airline declared and presented a $1 million tala dividend to the Government of Samoa for the year ending 30 June 2025.

“The dividends stand as a proud gesture of gratitude to the Government of Samoa, the airline’s sole Shareholder, whose leadership, trust and support made this revival possible.”

With flights to Tutuila, and domestic flights within American Samoa to Manu’a, the airline has made a transformational turnaround in its financial performance.

“Equity has swung by $87 million, shifting from a negative $54 million in June 2022 to a positive $33 million in June 2025.”

“Company debt has been slashed by $70 million, falling from $80 million to just $10 million over the same period..

“Most striking of all, Samoa Airways has delivered $87 million in net profits after tax over the past three years, a complete reversal from the $93 million in net losses suffered during the previous five years.”

The $87 million of profits and improvements in equity was achieved through a $66 million injection from the Government through a $55 million write-off of the UTOS loan and $11 million direct assistance to pay off other old debts.

In addition to returning value to its Shareholder, Samoa Airways confirmed that part of the profits will be reinvested in maintaining and upgrading its fleet.

The second Twin Otter will be sent to Canada for a $10 million re-fit, with an expected return in February 2026.

Interim Managing Director and CEO, Fauo’o Taua Fatu Tielu, welcomed the result, saying that he is immensely proud of what has been accomplished in such a short time.

100% fresh organic and locally raised chicken; no growth hormones, no antibiotics.

“Full credit must go first and foremost to our Shareholder for their steadfast leadership and support, and equally to our valued Customers, whose loyalty and confidence have been instrumental in making this success possible..

“The profits we have generated will also enable us to reinvest in our fleet, beginning with the planned upgrade of the second Twin Otter, ensuring continued reliability and service excellence.”

The Board of Directors acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the staff and management, whose commitment has been instrumental in this remarkable turnaround.

The Board of Directors say it is important to ensure Samoa Airways not only sustains its financial strength but continues to serve as a source of national pride and a driver of economic growth for Samoa.

This Board of Directors of Samoa Airways, consists of; Tupuola Oloialii Koki Tuala – Interim Chairperson, Taimalieutu Charlie Westerlund – Interim Director and Fauo’o Taua Fatu Tielu – Interim Managing Director & CEO.
