Minister Apologises Profusely, says Lengthy Ferry Schedule Disruptions “Will Not Happen Again”

Minister issues apology for journey delay.

5 June 2023 Apia Samoa.  The Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, Hon Olo Afoa Fiti Vaai, has issued a statement of apology regarding disruptions to the inter-island ferry schedule which occurred last Friday.

Distributed by email on Sunday afternoon by the Government Press Secretariat, the statement has the Minister apologing profusely and says he is “committed to ensuring that such disruptions do not recur in the future.”

According to the statement, there were “lengthy delays in the ferry schedule last Friday.”

For this reason, Olo Fiti Vaai, as the Minister responsible for Transportation says he apologises “to everyone who was affected by this occurrence.”

The Minister says he apologises on behalf of his staff – presumably he is referring to the staff of Samoa’s State Owned Shipping Corporation which operates the ferry service between the two main islands of Upolu and Savaii.

“I apologise on behalf of my staff and the Government.”

The MP from Gaga’emauga No2 in Savaii said he is empathetic towards all those inconvenienced.

“I understand the frustration and inconvenience that this caused..” and assures the public that “this is not a reflection of the Government stance and this will not happen again.”
