The Human Rights Protection Party have secured a triple win in the urban Vaimauga district – taking out Vaimauga 2, 3 and 4. Vaimauga 1 has been won by FAST party’s Pauga Toematavui Talalelei Pauga, edging out HRPP’s long serving MP, Sulamanaia Tauiliili Tuivasa.
Vaimauga 2
Lenatai Victor Faafoi Tamapua is a veteran HRPP MP returning for his fourth Parliamentary term.
Lenatai was first elected to Parliament in the 2011 general election. He was re-elected in 2016 and was appointed Associate Minister of Justice and Courts Administration, and later through a cabinet reshuffle, given the Associate Minister for Revenue.
Lenatai also holds the Fuimaono title from his family in Falealili.
Lenatai registered 388 votes ahead of FAST party’s Tamaleta Taimang Jensen. There are 165 pre-polling votes to count plus any special votes to be counted on Monday.
Lenatai: 1,144 votes
Niuafolau: 70 votes
Tamaleta: 756 votes
Vaimauga 3
Vaimauga 3 sees HRPP’s Taiolaliiseu Fiti Aimaasu leading by 124 votes ahead of former Minister of Finance, Hon Lautimuia Uelese Vaai after the preliminary count.
Taioaliiseu: 1,235 votes
Lautimuia: 1,111 votes
There are 242 pre-polling votes to count, as well any special votes cast from booths outside the constituency. However, probability says the margin of 124 makes the HRPP win a safe bet.
The former Minister of Finance secured wins in 2 booths, came very close in 4 voting booths, but fell behind Taiolaliiseu in 6 voting booths.
Lautimuia’s loss is a big hit for the Samoa Uniting Party, which looks to have only secured 3 seats after the preliminary count.
Vaimauga 4
Lima Graeme Tualaulelei secured a comfortable 944 votes – which placed him 107 votes ahead of FAST party’s Tonuu Fuamoli Amituanai Misi who polled 837.
Another upset for SUP saw former Police Minister, Hon Faualo Harry Schuster poll only 134 votes, while Leader of the Labour Party, Hon Faaolesa Katopau Ainuu was only able to poll an embarrassing 16 votes in total, with 5 voting booths registering none for the former HRPP Minister of Justice.
Lima Graeme is a former public servant who served as the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly prior to the 2021 political crisis.
