Samoa’s Father’s Day long weekend has started with the tragic death of a young boy after he was hit by a bus in a horrific road accident at Faleasiu after school on Friday.
The grieving family have posted tributes and photos of 7-year-old Milo Salia Fatu Maselino of Faleasiu Uta, as they remember him as a humble young boy who obeyed his elders, and loved going to school.
A heartbreaking video circulating on social media has sparked widespread community grief and fierce condemnation after the schoolboy tragically died at the scene.
The distressing footage widely shared on social media captures the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, with the young boy seen lying on the ground, still wearing his school uniform.
A group of men are seen desperately trying to assist and tend to the boy’s wounds, however, he had sustained fatal injuries to his head, and died at the scene.
The footage captures family members calling out the young boy’s name weeping by the roadside as a crowd stand helplessly by.
Family posts confirms Milo had just turned 7 on the 7th of June this year.
Samoa’s Acting Police Commissioner says the bus driver has been charged with reckless driving causing death and remains in custody.
