The Faʻatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party has won 31 of 51 parliamentary seats in Samoa’s 2025 election, positioning La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt to lead the next government.
The FAST victory dominated Savaii, securing 16 out of the 20 seats on the Big Island. HRPP won 3 seats in Savaii and one Independent.
Upolu’s 31 seats were won by 15 FAST, 11 HRPP, 3 SUP and 2 Independents..
Here’s SGNs summary of the Official Count:

The Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP), led by former long-serving Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, claimed 14 seats, while the Samoa Uniting Party (SUP) of caretaker Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa won three. Three independents were also elected.

This outcome marks a historic turning point for Samoa, ending months of political tension that followed a split in the FAST party earlier this year. Parliament was left fractured. Two failed no-confidence motions and the rejection of the government’s budget eventually triggered the snap election.

Samoa’s first woman Prime Minister Hon Naomi Fiame Mata’afa and 14 Cabinet Ministers ran the election under the newly formed SUP.
With FAST securing a comfortable majority, La’aulialemalietoa is expected to be formally confirmed as Samoa’s next leader once results are officially declared and Parliament convenes.
The victory comes just four years after the party established and ended HRPP’s decades-long rule at the 2021 general election.

The election results reflect public confidence in FAST despite internal splits and challenges.
Samoa’s FAST supporters living abroad took great interest in this general election with hundreds flying back to Samoa to cast their votes, while others were able to influence their families in Samoa.
Meanwhile, HRPP has indicated it will lodge court petitions over some constituency results, though the margin of FAST’s victory makes it unlikely to alter the overall outcome.

The new Parliament will face immediate challenges to stabilise Samoa’s political climate and restore unity after one of the most turbulent political periods in history.
At a thanksgiving sauniga lotu on Sunday after Friday’s elections, Laaulialemalietoa called on Tuilaepa and Fiame to put aside their differences and come together for the betterment of Samoa,
He called for peace and unity and said he was ready to lead a Government elected by the people, for all the people of Samoa, and not just the FAST party.

“O le faigamalo e filifili e Samoa, e lē na o se faigamalo a le Faatuatua i Le Atua Samoa ua Tasi.. O le faigamalo a Samoa atoa..”
Laauli said the 3 pillars of his FAST led Government are to Seek Justice, base everything on Love and Walk Humbly with God.
“Saili i le Amiotonu, Naunau i le Alofa ma Savavali ma Le Atua ma le Loto Maualalo.”
