Youth Appears in Court Charged with Attempted Murder of Taxi Driver

Translated from FaaSamoa A 16 year old appeared before the Supreme Court of Samoa charged with attempted murder of a taxi driver.

Represented by Counsel Lucy Sio, the youth entered not guilty pleas to grievous bodily harm, and attempted murder.

It is alleged that the youth caught the taxi near Tuanaimato and instead of paying for his fare, he stabbed the taxi driver in the neck from behind.

Police said at the time of the youth’s arrest that a pocket knife was used as a weapon.

The taxi driver suffered serious injuries to his neck, and said the SASNOC staff had saved his life.

“I felt a sudden sharp pain and then suddenly felt my shirt was damp and saw blood all over my seat,” the victim told SGN af the time.

The Courts have set a March hearing date for the matter.
