Close to 40 sailors and volunteers from the Apia Yacht Club ferried across the Mulinuu Lagoon to clean up the Mulinuu reef on World Clean Up Day last Saturday.
Celebrated on the third Saturday in September, World Clean Up Day aims to bring together people worldwide to clean up and care for their communities.
Close to 200 people picked up rubbish around the coastal area of Apia.
Staff Volunteers from the local business community joined in the fun, with sailors as young as six years old and their families, heading out at 7am.
“We’re here to clean up our coastal areas and our reef – for this is our front yard, our playground” said Apia Yacht Club sailors.

AYC Commodore, Seiuli Ian Black, expressed his gratitude to the business community for their hand in supporting the clean-up efforts.
