07 July 2019, Apia Samoa. Basketball in Gym 2 at Tuanaimato started off with the Women’s competition, with Fiji edging out Cook Islands by 71-69.
Fiji led for 4 quarters but Cook Islands fought hard throughout the game and closed the gap in the final quarter.
The Cook Islands women’s team certainly had more supporters in the crowd giving their team extra push but Fiji held a tight defense as the clock ticked down.
Fiji’s Val Nainima was instrumental in the win, with 24 points of Fijis 71. This is the 33 year old veteran’s 4th Pacific Games.
The Samoa Women’s team will play New Caledonia at 6.45pm, Gym 2, Tuanaimato.
