PUBLIC & MARINE SEVERE WEATHER INFORMATION NUMBER SEVENTEEN (A17) FOR SAMOA
ISSUED BY THE SAMOA METEOROLOGICAL DIVISION AT 5:00 AM SATURDAY 27th FEBRUARY 2021.
VALID: HEAVY RAIN ADVISORY
VALID: FLOOD ADVISORY
CANCELLED: WIND ADVISORY
CANCELLED: MARINE ADVISORY
A convergence zone remains to the south of Samoa providing unstable weather conditions to persist over the islands. The system continues to bring periods of rain with brief heavy falls, gusty winds and possible thunderstorms for today. A ridge of high pressure is expected to build over the country; and such oppresses the convergence zone to relocate South from Samoa later today. This situation warrants the Downgraded of the Heavy Rain and Flood Warnings to Advisory level. The latest observations also indicate wind speed fall below the advisory threshold thus the wave height currently range from 2-2.5 metres and is expected to remain below 2.5 metres towards the new week. Therefore, Marine and Wind Advisories are now CANCELLED for all of Samoa due to these changes.
Potential Impacts:
Heavy downpours with poor visibility, gusty winds, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides and waterways. River overflows and landslides. Rough seas.
The next severe weather information will be issued at 5:00 pm.
