Veteran politician Ale Vena Ale has secured a solid win over the Faleata 4 seat despite a strong campaign by HRPP’s Pepe Christian Fruean.
Preliminary results before pre-polling and special votes places Ale at 1071 votes. That is 525 votes ahead of second placed Pepe Christian Fruean with a total of 546 preliminary votes. Mapu Tafaigata of the Samoa Uniting Party polled 123 votes.
Ale is also a founding member of the Human Rights Protection Party. In 2022, he announced that he was leaving the HRPP on account of Tuilaepa’s leadership.
Following HRPP’s loss in 2021, Ale called for the party leader to step down.
“Ua ou le fiafia lava i le matou vaega faaupufai.”
“I am not happy with our leader, because he does not accept the advice that we need someone else to lead the party.”
“Ou te le o fiafia i le matou taitai, ona na te le talia le fautuaga, ua tatau ona fili se isi e taitaia le matou vaega faaupufai.”
Ale had asserted at the time, that it was common for political parties in democratic governments to change their leadership when things are not going well.
Ale switched to FAST and ran a by-election in 2023. Today’s general election makes it Ale’s third election in just over 3 years: April 2021 General Election, 2023 By-Election, 2025 General Election.
