USP Samoa Campus Lifts the Bar for Open Day 2022

The University of the South Pacific – Samoa Campus is gearing up to host hundreds of senior college students and their teachers, as well as invited guests and the general public to its 2022 Open Day later this week on Friday July 22nd.
Themed “Shaping Pacific Futures” a press release states that Open Day is a defining day for prospective USP students, seeking secure study pathways to future career goals.
Presiding over the day’s activities will be the USP Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Ahluwalia, and the USP Samoa Campus Director. Afioga Tootoooleaava Dr. Fanaafi Aiono-Le Tagaloa.
The USP Samoa Campus is prepared to raise the bar in its Open Day this year, and it will do this by showcasing its full arsenal of future-shaping programmes in different disciplines from Certificate to PhD level qualifications.
The USP Samoa Campus has eight Academic Units comprising six Schools of the University, plus the Pacific TAFE and Pace-SD.
“To gain a full awareness of the University’s programmes and relevant careers, students and visitors must join the Open Day Tour, a momentous part of the Open Day celebrations..
“The objective of the tour is to offer first-hand information to all potential students to inform their decisions on choices for higher learning..

“The tour will not only give concrete evidence of the academic calibre and shaping power of USP; it also offers an explanation for USP’s ranking amongst 10% of the world’s finest universities”.
In a first ever, the Campus will adopt a ‘student-inspiring-students’ approach where 2 students have been selected to give the keynote for this year’s Open Day, in recognition of the shaping power of peers over peers.
Raring to inspire, motivate, inform, and shape their peers are Mr. Fa’atauva’a Tavita, who is an outgoing third-year student in the Bachelor of Science programme majoring in Physics and Mathematics.
He will be joined by a current PASS Leader in Mathematics. Ms Eloi Alatimu, a First Year student in the Diploma of Management Studies programme.
“Both students encapsulate the graduate attributes that the University has strategically prepared for its students, and both are already very influential in students’ lives on campus..”
Among invited guests are members of the diplomatic corps, college students, parents, teachers and friends of USP.
An invocation will be prepared by Rev. Fasiota Autagavaia (EFKS-Alafua), followed by remarks by USP-Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia.
Both will precede the “Student Experience” keynote, a closing prayer and vote of thanks by Seve Dr Folototo Seve.
There will be interspersing performances by the Samoan and Tongan student groups.
Campus tours will last for approximately 2 hours, to cover 10 designated destinations, including academic and support sections of the Campus.
Following the tour, there will be an academic quiz on general knowledge acquired throughout the tours. There will be more entertainment before closure at 2pm.
Steering the open day activities from start to end will be the Open Day Committee Chair and emcee for the day, Afioga Galumalemana Ronna Lee.
