The Unit Trust of Samoa (UTOS) has declared an interim dividend of .04 sene per unit for its Unitholders.
The announcement comes amidst economic uncertainty as the global coronavirus pandemic brings the world to a standstill.
In a media release, UTOS CEO Tevaga Viane Tagiilima says this is the first time an interimn dividend has been paid out to Unitholders since its establishment in 2010 as an investment vehicle, accessible by all Samoans both local or abroad.
“The relatively strong performance of the Unit Trust to date has provided the opportunity, during these uncertain times, to support its unitholders financially while we face the COVID-19 crisis,” said Tevaga.
The establishment of UTOS has opened the opportunity for small investors to access a range of investments, spreading risk and leaving the management of their savings in the hands of experts.
The media statement confirms that the calculation of the dividend pay-out is based on the Unit balance as at 31st December 2019; and only for active Unitholder accounts.
“That is, any accounts closed within January to April 2020 will not be entitled”.
Declared at the UTOS (Management) Limited Board Meeting earlier this week, the interim dividend is based on the financial performance of the Trust for the first half of the financial year 2019/2020 which equates to a total payout of $2.90 Million tala to be made to its unitholders.
“Active Unitholders who are eligible for this payout will be able to access their dividends on the 4th of May 2020. The Unitholders will be given a one month period to access these dividends, thereafter; automatic reinvestment will take place as we near the end of financial whereby a final dividend is also anticipated”.
