A head-on collision between two taxis during bustling traffic at Vailoa around 1.30pm on Friday has left two passengers and one driver in serious condition.
An eye witness said the driver of the taxi carrying two passengers was not seriously injured, but his passengers were taken to the hospital.
That vehicle was traveling from Apia towards the airport.
The other taxi traveling in the opposite direction into town, did not have a passenger but the driver was seen being taken away to the hospital in serious condition, according to witnesses.
A witness says her car almost collided with one of the taxis invoiced in the accident.
“He was speeding, overtook and almost hit me. Then he went into the middle emergency lane and that’s when he collided with the oncoming taxi.”
She said the men in a white Toyota Hilux helped to take the passengers out, fearing the badly wrecked vehicle would burst into flames.

Samoa’s Commissioner of Fire and Emergency Services said there were 3 victims but all were transported to the hospital by private vehicles belonging to members of the public.
Commissioner Tanuvasa Petone Mauga said its important for members of the public to call 911 before they react to the accident and whereas many bystanders mean we’ll to help, it can be risky to the injured.
“I hope they extract them properly with care to avoid more injuries.”
The 4-lane road from Pesega-Lepea, through Vailoa-Vaigaga to Vaitele and onwards to the Toamua-Puipaa stretch is being treated more and more by drivers as a motorway.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured.
