The Samoa Police Service have confirmed that two prisoners escaped from the new Tanumalala prison this morning.
“Samoa Police Service (SPS) was notified by the Samoa Prisons and Correctional Services (SPCS) regarding two prisoners who have escaped from Tanumalala Prisons today, Sunday, 6 October 2019.”
The two escapees are convicted rapist Lauitiiti Tualima of Satapuala and the notorious theft and armed robberer Aniseko Vaelei of Vaiusu and Aele.
Now 21 years old, Aniseko Vaelei had escaped from Tafaigata with notorious criminal Pati Chong Nee on Sunday 20th January and was captured by police a month later following a home invasion robbery of the One-On-One shop at Vailoa where $60,000 tala cash was reported stolen. Pati Chong Nee is still at large.
27 year old Lauititi Tualima is Samoa’s notorious prison escspee. He was convicted of raping a tourist at the Treehouse lodging while her husband was tied up. He did this while he was on the loose as an escaped convict from Tafaigata prison.
Also a convicted drug dealer Lauitiiti was last captured and stood before Chief Justice Tiavasue Patu Falefatu Sapolu in February of 2018. At the time, he had refused to enter a plea to charges of escaping from Tafa’igata prison. Tualima told the then CJ Tiavasue that he would not enter a plea until “something is done about their treatment in prison”.
The Samoa Police Service say they were notified of the escaped prisoners last night and warn that, “both prisoners have previously been convicted on charges of Rape, Burglary and Theft, Robbery and Escape from Prison”.
