Tuia Fuatogi Letoa is set to return to Parliament as the Safata 2 MP flying the flag of the Faatuatua i Le Atua Samoa ua Tasi party after what looks to be a landslide win in today’s by-election.
Tuia Pua Fuatogi Letoa – 72+17+94+13+47+259+200 = 820
Leleua Suataga Aso:44+207+21+50+144+7+78 = 551. Toleafoa Losalia Sagalala Niumata: 9+1+56+11+4+2+23 = 106
Preliminary results from 7 polling stations, has Tuia with 820 votes. That places him 269 votes ahead of Independent candidate Leleua Suataga Aso who polled 551 votes while independent candidate Toleafoa Losalia Sagalala Niumata secured 106 votes.
The by-election was held to fill the Safata 2 parliamentary seat after Tuia crossed the floor from HRPP to join the ruling FAST Party.
The landslide results means the second placed candidate has achieved 50% of the votes cast.
It is hoped that this by-election will not end up in costly post election petitions as has been the recent trend.
The Office of the Electoral Commission issued a summary of the by-election results confirming 82% of registered voters turned out to have their say.
