Toa Samoa five-eighth Chanel Harris-Tavita has signed a second contract extension in less than three months to stretch his stay with the Warriors to 10 seasons.
The new deal, which runs through to the end of the 2029 campaign, follows a one-year contract extension signed in May that secured him for the 2027 season.
Warriors general manager of recruitment and development Andrew McFadden said the latest signing will ensure Harris-Tavita remains a critical part of the club’s plans for at least the next three seasons.
“He has worked so hard at improving his game and has become one of the game’s most accomplished halves.”
Following a year away from the game in 2023, Harris-Tavita returned for his second stint with the Warriors on a two-year deal for 2024 and 2025 before extending his contract by one year to the end of this season.
A versatile half, Harris-Tavita was shifted to halfback when Luke Metcalf was forced from the field with a hamstring injury just 20 minutes into the Warriors’ win over the Broncos at the weekend.
Head coach Andrew Webster said the seamless switch showed exactly why Harris-Tavita is so valuable to the side.
“How calm he was and the way he stood up and took control when we were faced with adversity. He was really professional.
“He’s one of our most consistent players and is having a terrific season for us leading our left edge. We’re so glad he’s staying for two more years and we know he is going to become an even more important player for us.”
Harris-Tavita is the front-runner for the five-eight Toa Samoa jersey at this year’s Rugby League World Cup.
