TIR Moataa Retains Taula Apia Rugby Union Shield after Close Challenge by Laulii Lions

The Taumeasina Island Resort Moataa side managed to hold onto the shield after a solid challenge by the Laulii Lions.

A relieved Moataa side receive their prizes from former Samoa 7s International and Coach Galumalemana Rudolf Moors. The shield was not at the field this week #oops.

TIR Moataa were leading by 17-5 at halftime, with Laulii missing out on a try in the first five minutes, ruled disallowed due to a knock-on.

The men in white only scored 7 points in the second half, putting themselves under a lot of pressure from the challengers.

The Lions came back strong after the break to give the shield holders a scare by clocking 14 points in the second half.

Moataa managed to retain the shield with a 24-19 win. In the rush to get to the field this week, Moataa forgot to pick up the shield from the falesa where it is kept throughout the week #oops.

In other Senior A results of the Taula Apia Rugby Union’s men’s competition,  Lupeolesoaga Magiagi defeated SSAB Moamoa 19-5, Apia put away a developing Letogo side by 60-5 and Vaimoso beat Vailele by 38-13.

In the Under 20 competition Letogo won by default over SCOPA who have not been able to field a development side so far this year.

Laulii Lions beat Vailele 19-0 and BBE Vaiala defeated Lupeolesoaga by a close 12-7.

The Under 20s match between SSAB Moamoa and Apia Maroons tied at 10-10.

The Taula Apia Rugby Union’s men’s and women’s competition is played every Saturday at the Lakapi Samoa HPU grounds at Tuanaimato.
