Three More Golds for National Bank of Samoa – Samoa Weightlifting Team


The National Bank of Samoa – Samoa Weightlifting Team secured three more Gold Medals at the Oceania & Olympic Qualifiers 2024 held at the Due Drop Events Centre in Manukau, Auckland New Zealand this week.

Veteran Vaipava Nevo Ioane opened the medal tally with Gold for the 67kg Men’s Division, followed by three more to make it four Golds on Day 1.

John Tafi won Samoa’s second Gold Medal in the Mens 73kg division and set a NEW OCEANIA SENIOR RECORD with a 170kg Clean + Jerk.

Next up on the first day of competition was 16 year old Tovio Ah Chong – who secured Samoa’s 3rd Gold Medal in the Mens 81kg division.

Tovio also set a NEW OCEANIA RECORD in the Clean + Jerk.

The National Bank of Samoa – Samoa Weightlifting Team’s 4th Gold Medal was won by 16 year old Emanuel Ulimasao for the Mens 89kg Division.

President of Samoa Weightlifting Federation and Head Coach Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork acknowledged the support of their sponsors.
