16 September 2019 Apia Samoa. Three young men are in police custody for theft and assault of a Chinese businessman around 6pm on Saturday, 14 September 2019 at Lotopa.
Police investigation indicates that the men approached the Chinese businessman while he was in his car and took a backpack containing cash from the victim’s vehicle.
According to a statement by police, “One of the men distracted the victim while the other forcefully took the bag containing SAT$23,000.00”.
“The victim was punched in the face when he tried to chase after the culprits”.
Police confim that at the time of the assault the men were under the influence of alcohol.
Police responded and carried out the investigation last Saturday night.
One of the three suspects was arrested early Sunday morning and was charged accordingly while another two were arrested and charged earlier today, Monday, 16 September 2019.
SPS has recovered SAT$21,545 together with items such as boxes of chicken and beers from the suspects.
The Samoa Police Service confirms that these items have all been returned to the victim.
All three suspects have been remanded in custody until they appear in Court on 01 October 2019 for mention.
