Three Fishermen Rescued off the Shores of Faga in Savaii

Three fishermen stranded off the shores of Faga in Savaii were rescued by police on Friday night, 10 May 2024.

The Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services (SPPCS) Savaii team took swift action and averted a potential disaster in rescuing the group ahead of Mother’s Day weekend.

The three men from the villages  Salelavalu, Fusi, and Saipipi were out fishing when the boat’s motor malfunctioned, leaving them stranded just off the outer shores of Faga.

The fishermen contacted the Savaii police station for assistance and the team deployed a specialised vessel and carried out a successful rescue operation.

A press release issued by the Samoa Police Prisons and Corrections Services (SPPCS) states the team acted swiftly, “navigated the waters with precision and efficiency, reaching the distressed fishermen without delay”

The press release did not state the response time of the rescue team to the stranded fishermen, however, according to the SPPCS press release, “the timely intervention and proficient execution of the rescue operation averted a potential crisis and ensured the fishermen’s safe return to their families and communities.”
