Three children were traveling with their parents, when their family vehicle got into 2-car accident along the Toamua-Puipaa stretch of road.
The Toamua-Puipaa stretch of road is often mistaken by drivers as a motorway, with cars settling into cruise mode at higher than usual speeds.
At around midnight Tuesday early hours of Wednesday, a two-car accident along the Toamua-Puipaa stretch of road resulted in a young girl being taken to the hospital.
A driver carrying his wife and three young children in their family car had tried to overtake a taxi, not knowing the taxi was turning off the main road.
Both cars were traveling away from town towards Faleula, and were pushed off the road upon impact.

A young girl who witnesses say looked between 10-12 was sitting in the front seat of the family car with her Dad driving. She suffered injuries to her mouth and face.
“She was attended to by FESA first responders and taken to hospital,” witnesses said.
The driver’s wife and two young children aged between 2-6 were seated at the back.
“Praise the Lord they were unharmed,” said the witness.

“Viia le Alii e le’i faamanualia le tinā ma si ana fanau sa i tua o le taavale. Na o si afafine lea sa i luma o le taavale, na ave e le ambulance..”
The driver told a witness they had been to Falelauniu to pick up his wife’s niece who was working late there.

“We went earlier and they told us to go home. They said a work car would drop them off..
“When we got home she called us to come back and pick her up. When we got there the second time they said she had left, and was being dropped off..”

The driver admitted to being annoyed and agitated. His anger, he says, may have contributed to the accident.
He was remorseful and says he is sorry for the harm that could have been much worse, to his wife and children.
The driver of the taxi was unharmed.
FESA and Police through the Afega Depot were quick on the scene.
Both vehicles were towed to the Police Main Headquarters where both drivers were asked to go down and make statements.
