GUARDING AGAINST THE HUSTLE

Proverbs 23:4 “Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness.

Many people glorify the hustle—the relentless pursuit of wealth. Scripture pauses us mid-stride: exhausting yourself in pursuit of wealth isn’t the same as pursuing God’s calling.

Today’s verse exposes two hidden idols – production (wearing yourself out) and pride (trusting your own cleverness). Neither can secure the soul.

Riches are tools, not targets; resources, not identity. When accumulation becomes the scoreboard of worth – rest, relationships and reverence erode.

God invites you to steward, not strive yourself empty.

The real question isn’t “How much can I gain?” but “Who am I becoming as I work?”

Are you sacrificing Sabbath rhythms, family presence, or peace of mind for financial gains?

Prayer:

Father, recalibrate my ambitions. Forgive me for the times when I’ve chased wealth more than wisdom. Teach me to work diligently yet restfully, trusting Your provision over my cleverness. Realign my identity in Christ, not in accumulation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Have a wonderful day. God bless and lots’a love,

Warren
