Tama Uli Crowned Back to Back Champions of ANZAC Sevens


29 April 2022, Apia Samoa. Tama Uli from Savaii are the 2023 ANZAC Day Sevens Tournament champions beating Vaiala Ulalei in the final at Apia Park this afternoon.

It is the second year in a row that Tama Uli have been crowned champions of the ANZAC Sevens in Samoa.

Tama Uli were pooled with Ulitogia and Vaimoso. In the pool stages they beat Ulutogia by 12 – 5 before taking out Vaimoso for 21 – 12.

In an excitig semifinal that could have gone either way, Tama Uli met Alalagafa from Falealili and edged them out by 24-19 to advance to the final against Vaiala Ualalei.

Vaiala Ulalei put up a good fight but Tama Uli, with Owen Niue at the wing, were not going to let the opportunity for back to back champions slip through their fingers.

The Tama Uli Rugby 7s team is coached by Matamua Junior Salima, who is also a Lakapi Samoa development officer for Savaii.
