Flight to Sydney Diverted Causing Disruption to Samoa Airways

Public Notice

Due to operational reasons arising from weather related issues in Sydney, Australia Samoa Airways advises the travelling public to expect disruptions to flight services today through to Wednesday 8 January 2020.

CEO Samoa Airways, Tupuivao Seiuli Alvin Tuala explains that following a routine flight from Apia to Sydney last night (Saturday 4 January) the aircraft was unable to land at Sydney airport due to bad weather conditions and was diverted to Melbourne causing further delays.

“Unfortunately, owing to bad weather the aircraft was unable to land at Sydney airport and diverted instead to Melbourne. The disruptions to operations meant added delays and the aircraft could not make it to Sydney Airport before it closed.” Tupuivao said.

“The aircraft was safely grounded in Melbourne where it was refuelled and passengers on OL855 APWYSD were accommodated at a nearby hotel in the city. As always the safety of our passengers and air crew are of the utmost priority to Samoa Airways. Our team is working very hard to get operations back to normal and ensure our customers arrive safely to their destinations.”

Information relating to the current flight delays is available on Samoa Airways official website and social media platforms for passengers to check flight status and stay updated with further travel advisories.
