A man arrested and accused in a Faleatiu drug related police drug raid in August has died at Motootua National Hospital this week.
Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed the 37 year old man who was being held in custody awaiting a court hearing had been rushed to the hospital.
Despite efforts by doctors, the man passed away.
“We are investigating the matter and will await a coroner’s report to determine the cause of death,” said Auapaau.
A source within the prison says the accused was often seen not touching his food during meal times, and had been taken to hospital before.
“There were many times where he wouldn’t eat or just pick at the food a little.”
The deceased is one of five arrests from a police raid at Faleatiu at the end of August where 5,000 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $250,000 tala were ceased together with marijuana seeds and unregistered firearms.
