STEADFAST LOVE AND HONESTY
Proverbs 19:22 “What is desired in a man is steadfast love, and a poor man is better than a liar.”
This short but powerful proverb reminds us of two timeless truths: the value of steadfast love and the importance of honesty over material wealth.
“Steadfast love” refers to loyal, unwavering kindness. Love that stays the course through storms and silence, through wealth and poverty.
It is the kind of love God shows us daily: covenantal, committed, and full of mercy.
According to today’s proverb, this trait is what is most deeply desired in a person – not their achievements, charm, or social standing, but their ability to consistently love others with faithfulness and integrity.
Then comes a striking contrast: “a poor man is better than a liar.”
God values honesty even in hardship more than deception in prosperity. It is better to have little and live truthfully than to gain much through lies.
Why? Because lies fracture trust, erode relationships, and separate us from God’s heart. But truthfulness – especially when it costs us something – reflects His nature and invites His presence.
Let’s pursue the kind of love that reflects God’s love, and the kind of honesty that honours Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing me what truly matters – steadfast love and integrity. Help me to love others with the kind of loyalty and grace that You have shown me.
Guard my heart against the temptation to lie or compromise, even when it seems easier or more rewarding.
Teach me to value honesty above comfort and to live in a way that reflects Your truth. I want to be known not for what I have, but for the love and truth I live by.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Have a restful and peaceful weekend. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
